Tom Cave – Walero Ambassador

“Feeling comfortable and reducing the effect of extreme ambient temperatures – both in and out of the car – is crucial when you are pushing to get the best out of yourself. It allows you to focus on driving and performance.

Walero base layers not only regulate your body temperature but reduce sweat and fit perfectly. In fact, you can hardly feel you are wearing them, which further adds to their comfort and effectiveness.

The quality of manufacturer and soft-feel material combined with a distinctive style and colour means they look good too and I’m often asked by other competitors where they can get their hands on a set!”

Tom Cave – British /World Rally Championship

Tom Cave Rally Driver

Tom Cave was introduced to the world of rallying at the tender age of 13 with one the UK’s leading rally schools.

His natural ability was evident from the very first attempt behind the wheel and he set about looking into the possibility of competing in Europe due to their lower age restrictions.

In 2007 and whilst in the middle of his GCSE’s, Tom headed to Latvia to contest the Latvian Rally Sprint Championship in an MGZR.  After a successful four rounds in the series, in 2008 he stepped up to the Latvian National Rally Championship in a Fiesta ST with the goal of obtaining an International Licence. Later that year he became the youngest ever competitor to take part in Wales Rally GB – passing his driving test just 5 days before the event – and went on to win the class by 15 minutes.

2009 saw selected events in Europe to gain experience of worldwide competition, contesting three World Championship events in a bid to build seat time and knowledge of the stages for the future.  In 2010, he contested the world famous Rallye Monte Carlo and shortly after signed a deal to contest the Intercontinental Rally Championship in a works backed Proton Satria Neo Super2000.

2011 saw Tom return home and become the BTRDA Production Cup Champion as well as winning the BTRDA Junior Driver award. Selected outings in the British Rally Championship saw him finish second overall on Rallye Sunseeker in a JRM Mitsubishi Evo 10. He then went on to take part in three more rounds of the BRC, culminating in a season topping outing in a Mitsubishi World Rally Car on the Cambrian Stages and finished the event second overall.

A full campaign in the British Rally Championship in 2012 saw Tom take overall victories on the Bulldog International Rally of Wales and the International Rally of Yorkshire, finishing second overall in the BRC and first in the Citroen Junior Trophy. Driving a Citroen DS3 R3, he finished every round of the BRC and won the Pirelli Star Driver award for his achievements on his home event, the Bulldog Rally. Alongside the BRC he contested several other events including the Mid Wales Stages and the Bill Gwynne Coracle Stages, both of which he won overall.  He filled gaps in the calendar with outings once again with the Proton Works Team. The International Rally of Thailand saw Tom win his first overseas event in a Proton Satria Neo S2000. The second outing was Wales Rally GB alongside works driver PG Andesson, where he finished second in the SWRC class and 14th overall.

In 2013, Tom returned to the MSA British Rally Championship for the second year, in the Citroen DS3 after securing support from Morris Lubricants. The year was once again topped off by Wales Rally GB where he used the latest spec Ford Fiesta R5 car. Despite penalties due to technical work taking too long, he won five of the six stages in WRC2 on the first full day and set consistently top three times for the rest of the event.

In 2014, Tom tackled the the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy which is incorporated into the World Rally Championship. The five-round series uses identical R2 Ford Fiestas run by M-Sport and the prize was a fully-funded, seven-round season in the 2015 WRC2 class.  After a close run season, Tom narrowly missed out on overall victory in the series and claimed second place, against some of the best up and coming talents in the world.

Tom is currently competing in the MSA British Rally Championship.
