Lewis Plato Prepares for Final Rounds of 2016 Porsche Carrera Cup GB
This weekend, Walero Ambassador Lewis Plato heads to Brands Hatch, Kent, for the final two rounds of the 2016 Porsche Carrera Cup GB championship.
Lewis is currently lying second in the rookie standings in his debut season, but it has been quite a learning curve for the 23-year-old from Billericay in Essex: “I had not raced a Porsche before the start of the season. We kicked off the year in Spain with three days of testing so it was a very steep learning curve. It has definitely been a season full of highs and lows. The highlight was setting the fastest time at Knockhill during practice on a circuit that I had never been to before. We have run in the top six consistently, so to be fighting at the front with some great drivers has been a valuable experience.”
As well as his racing season, Lewis has been busy off the track working hard on his motorsport engineering studies and has since completed his engineering degree with Hertford University.
This weekend though, the focus will be on a point-scoring finish to consolidate his rookie standings and fight for a spot on the all-important podium. “I have been close but not managed to step onto the podium yet, which has been frustrating but I have learnt a huge amount. I would like to say a big thank you to Michael Meadows, our driver coach, whose input has been invaluable this year. Now it is down to me!”
Qualifying starts on Saturday 1st October at 12.05pm, with Race 1 commencing on Sunday 2nd October at 10:35am and Race 2 taking place at 16:17pm the same day.
We’d like to wish Lewis the best of luck in the upcoming final two rounds of the championship!
