September’s racing round up
The month of September was a fantastic month for a host of our Walero athletes and we take a look below at the best moments from an action packed month in the racing world!
Colin Garrett Webb storms to championship title
In the TC America series, Rooster Hall Racing with driver Colin Garrett clinched the TCX class championship on the strength of Garrett’s two wins at Sebring in the #44 M2 CS.
Garrett came into the season as the driver to beat after finishing second by just two points to Jacob Ruud last season and put in two controlling drives at Sebring to win the championship.
“I felt like today was probably my best race of the year,” said Garrett after the second race. “I can’t thank these guys enough. They worked super-hard to get this car to where it needed to be. I probably should have been doing this a year earlier, but better late than never!”
Louis Foster completes the sweep in Portland
Louis Foster clinched the pole position, race win and fastest lap in a dominating weekend at Portland in the penultimate round of the Indy NXT championship.
Louis kickstarted the weekend with a fourth and first in the first two practices of the weekend, and then delivered a storming late lap to earn his fourth pole of the season, the most of any driver earnt through on track qualifying in Indy NXT this year. In addition, Foster’s laptime of 1:02:6302 set a new track record breaking the previous record of 1:02:8074 set in 2018 by Arrow McLaren’s Indycar driver Pato O’Ward.
In the race itself, Foster took the perfect line into Turn 1 to avoid the chaos that ensued behind, where a number of competitors were wiped out. Foster still had plenty to do at a track with an obvious overtaking zone at Turn 1, but he extended his gap to over six seconds and managed it sensibly from there to deliver a perfect weekend.
“I’m really happy we could show what the #26 car can do, thanks to the whole Andretti team – they gave me an amazing car – and everyone who supports me for their continued help.”
Charlie Martin storms from last to the podium in Valencia
Charlie Martin charged from dead last to the third step of the podium in the opening race of the weekend to claim yet another class podium at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia for round four of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe championship.
Race one on Saturday afternoon would see Charlie taking the green flag and immediately making gains on those around her from the back of the grid. Charlie would rise to P4 in class before handing over the car to Jason, who drove a brilliant stint to claim P3 and a throughly deserved podium for the pair.
“What a day… from dead last to the podium !! A huge crash early on in qualifying saw the session cancelled without posting a time and starting from last was a bitter pill to swallow after showing good pace in testing.”
“Carving through traffic was very hectic on the twisty track at Valencia, I handed the car over P4 in class and Jason then drove a stint to be proud of to bring our car home on the podium!”
Alex Walker claims double podium in GT Cup at Donington
Walero athlete, Alex Walker, secured a double podium finish in the GT Cup at Donington in the middle of September with a series of fantastic drives alongside teammate, Tim Docker in the McLaren Artura GT4.
The pair would start the weekend with two strong qualifying performances respectively and headed into the ‘pit-stop’ race full of confidence that a strong result was on the cards. Alex would take over after a brilliant opening stint from Tim and he would charge through the field, showcasing some fantastic speed to claim a fantastic third place finish for the pair in the closing stages.
The sprint race that followed on Sunday afternoon would once again see a great drive from the driver pairing as they held their own at the front of the field to battle it out to a P2 finish, rounding out another great weekend for Alex and the team at Paddock Motorsport!
” A Brilliant weekend at Donington for the latest GT Cup round. Two podiums to come home with. Tim did a great job in both his stints in the new McLaren Artura which was amazing to drive! Massive thank you to all my partners for all the support!”
Former F1 ace, Mark Blundell, enjoys Goodwood revival outing
It was brilliant to see former F1 driver and Le Mans winner, Mark Blundell, back out in action in the St. Mary’s Trophy as he represented the Walero brand with another fantastic display of driving on a wonderful weekend celebrating the very best of motorsport!
“What a weekend at Goodwood with up’s and down’s on track but it all worked out in the end as team mate and entrant Kerry Micheal had a great race after the guys rallied and rebuilt engines across the weekend. Thank you to everyone involved for their support!”
