Walero Ambassador Harry Hunt finishes 4th in the 2016 Silk Way Rally!

Easily tougher than this year’s Dakar, the 2016 Silk Way Rally was unique in its length, surface variety and in part, altitude. Totalling 10,735 kilometres from start to finish, the route snaked through some of the most diverse, jaw-dropping landscapes in all the earth, from Moscow to Beijing featuring stints through Balkhash; home to one of the largest lakes in Asia, and Dunhuang; an ancient Buddhist city resting at the edge of the Taklamakan Desert.

During the 16-day rally, Hunt and his co-driver Andreas Schulz fought hard for their finishing position after a tough start left them 40 minutes behind. Despite that, just five days into the race, Harry covered a whopping 820 kilometres in one day and managed to make up a staggering 20 places. Then, only three days before race finish, competitor, Sebastien Loeb, dropped two hours after a penalty, leaving Harry to secure his 4th place.

Finishing ahead of Dakar 2016’s winners Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret was a proud moment for Harry and navigator Schulz, who will be contesting the next Dakar Rally in January 2017. The team here at Walero couldn’t have been happier to hear news of such a fantastic result, and in his latest Facebook post, Harry said, “Can’t believe Silk Way Rally is over and I finished 4th overall – what an amazing experience. Massive thanks to X-raid Team, MINI and my navigator Andy Schulz, couldn’t have done it without you.”

Harry’s rally season continues to go from strength to strength and we are ever proud to have him on our team of ambassadors! A huge well done from us!

His next event is the Rally Du Maroc, followed by the Dakar in 2017.

British racing driver Johnny Mowlem has been announced as a brand ambassador for Walero, the motorsports base layer supplier.

Mowlem, who currently competes in America in the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship with BAR1 Motorsports, will formally launch the partnership this weekend at Watkins Glen.

Johnny Mowlem commented: “I’m delighted to become a brand ambassador for Walero as having tried their fireproof undergarments I’ve been incredibly impressed at how well they appear to regulate my body temperature. 90% of my pro-racing takes place in often stifling hot and humid conditions in the IMSA United Sportscar Championship, and I suffer less with the heat when wearing Walero, which helps my competitiveness and concentration levels in particular towards the end of a long two or three-hour stint.”

Walero is a UK-based company producing the most technologically advanced range of competition base layers. The FIA [8856-200] and SFI [3.3] approved garments are fully fireproof and regulate the body’s temperature in both hot and cold climates, ensuring that the wearer stays comfortable and protected.

“We are proud to announce this partnership with Johnny, who is such a well-respected driver.  The USA brings different challenges compared to the UK and Europe, due to the extreme temperatures that we rarely experience in this part of the world. Johnny’s experience will be invaluable in helping us enter this market, as well as helping us test and develop future products in his role as a brand ambassador. We wish him every success for the rest of the season.” – Fiona James, Managing Director, Walero

Not long now until we wave goodbye to Ben BarkerAdam Carroll and Mike Wainwright of Gulf Racing as they head into the start of the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours!

It’s been over two weeks since the team at Gulf Racing arrived in Le Mans, France and at last, race day has arrived!

The team has been hard at work over the last fortnight, testing the iconic orange and blue Porsche 991 RSR, as well as preparing all three drivers for one of the most famous endurance races in the motorsports calendar as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship.

All three drivers will (of course!) be wearing their temperature-regulating base layers, which have been proven to reduce perspiration and heart rate.

Good Luck to Gulf Racing in the Le Mans 24 Hours!

The atmosphere has been building up over the weeks but excitement levels reached new heights last night when cheering crowds gathered from near and far to give support to the drivers during the Le Mans Driver Parade! There have been days of waiting but now the stage is well and truly set.

All that’s left to say is one last ‘Bonne Chance!’ to our partner, Gulf Racing! Have an amazing race, guys!

Race start is 3pm today. You can follow the drivers during the race by clicking here.

This weekend marks another podium win for Walero ambassador, British GT race driver and Britcar Champion Anna Walewska after coming 2nd in a GT4 in round five of the Silverstone 500 British GT. This will be Anna’s second podium of season, having achieved a 2nd in Round 1 back in April.

“I am so pleased to finish 2nd this weekend at Silverstone – British GT Championship round 5. Nathan Freke did an amazing job and so did the whole team. I am delighted to be part of Century Motorsport, they all put in so much work and it pays off in great ways. Thanks to everybody who has been helping and supporting. That one was for you, Rory! Can’t wait for round 6, Spa.” – Anna Walewska – Facebook

A huge well done to our leading lady. Spa-Francorchamps will take place on the 8th and 9th of July. Go well, Anna!

Top rookie honours for Lewis Plato after a strong weekend!

Ambassador, Lewis Plato, secured his best qualifying position of the season with a fourth and third-place starting position at Oulton Park in the latest round of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Two tough races resulted in a seventh-place finish for race 1 and a fourth-place and highest-placed rookie finish for race 2.

“Despite my best efforts I was unable to maximise my qualifying results on track and had to settle for a seventh and fourth place finish. I’m happy that we have made progress but disappointed that we did not transfer that performance in the race. On saying that, I have learnt so much this weekend and really enjoyed the battle on track so I cannot wait for Croft in two weeks’ time.” – Lewis Plato

A huge well-done from us and good luck to Lewis for the rest of the season!
