Charlie Martin – A Year to Remember

November saw the finale for the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship at the fast and flowing Portimao Circuit and Walero athlete Charlie Martin was in the thick of the action!

The 2022 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Championship came to a close in November for Charlie Martin and her teammate Jason Keats. With the pair heading to Portimao only 11 points from the Championship lead, it looked set to be another classic at the technical and undulating circuit. The weekend started extremely strongly with Charlie securing yet another pole position for Friday’s opening race which was rewarded with a hard fought second place after the chequered flag fell.

Looking to continue the momentum into the final race of the season, Charlie started strongly and looked to close the gap to the leading drivers. However, a strong stint for Jason was abruptly ended by a puncture and with a strong recovery drive, the Championship was cruelly taken out of reach.

To finish a memorable weekend, Charlie put in another stellar performance to qualify on Pole for the World Finale and a well deserved brace of third and fifth place finishes rounded out a season to remember.

“The weekend was a rollercoaster from the very beginning. We gave it everything and took the title fight right to the wire but it wasn’t to be as the puncture in Race Two spoiled our chances. Nonetheless, achieving P2 in the championship is a great achievement and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing team of mechanics and engineers. On a personal level, I was really pleased to achieve two more pole positions to sign the year off – particularly in the World Finals on Saturday.”
