Nelson King claims podium on Mini Challenge JCW debut

The 2023 Walero BTNWA campaign winner and one the latest additions to our athlete roster, Nelson King has wasted no time in making an impression in the highly competitive and close-knit, Mini Challenge JCW series.

Fresh from his Mini Challenge Trophy success, where he charged to the title amassing a mightily impressive 10 race wins, making him only the fifth driver to his double figures for race wins in a season in the current Cooper car, and placed him into the top six in the all-time Cooper winners list!

Nelson opened his Mini Challenge JCW account on a sunny, but blustery Saturday at Donington Park, where he managed an impressive 8th place on the grid in his maiden qualifying session! Race One on Saturday afternoon saw Nelson battle hard with the leading pack, but a lack of engine power would prevent him from moving forward through the field and he would settle for 8th at the fall of the chequered flag.

In race two on Sunday morning, wet and gloomy conditions would greet Nelson as he once again showcased strong pace to finish in 6th place, firmly cementing his position amongst the front runners for the final race of the day.

Race three would take in place in similarly treacherous conditions and Nelson would avoid stricken competitors at the start to put himself into the podium places as the race neared its end. Defending valiantly, Nelson would take the chequered flag in 3rd place, a fantastic achievement on debut!

Nelson’s debut season in the JCW class continues at Brands Hatch on the 6-7 May!
