This weekend action of racing we turn our attention over to the US, where Walero ambassador Owen Trinkler enjoyed yet another victory of the season. Competing with Team TGM in a Mercedes-AMG GT4, Trinkler and partner Hugh Plumb, earned themselves their third win of the season in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge. The strategy call for Team TGM yet again proved to be crucial for their victory, crossing the finish line in just .333-seconds clear of the field! As a result, the team were able to manage the fuel consumption, the race pace and loads of traffic to perfection to bring the number 46. Mercedes to another victory.

Although the victory did not come easy for the pair, finishing the line in what was a last lap thriller. Starting the two hour, 70 lap race in fourth, Trinkler held position until his first pit stop under yellow on lap 25 to fill up on fuel and take on a new set of Continental tires. Another brilliant strategic decision to bring the car in for the driver change to put Plumb in the car, and top off with a critical last few drops of fuel to go to the finish. Plumb’s patient driving allowed him to save enough fuel in the closing stint. Towards the final lap of the race, Plumb received the radio news one racer could only dream of; the team gave the “all-clear” command so Plumb was able to push forward on the final lap. Holding off the challenge of a faster car that had newer tires and fuel to burn while also navigating through other GS class machines that ran out of fuel in the final moments of the race, Plumb raced all the way to the checkered flag to claim the third team victory of the season.

The Trinkler/Plumb duo now provisionally hold a 31-point advantage in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge championship standings heading into the finale at Road Atlanta. Incredible stuff, keep going Trinkler!
