Tom Wood secures pole position and race win in Radical season opener
Another jam-packed season for Tom Wood was kickstarted in successful fashion at the opening weekend of the Hagerty Radical Championship at Donington Park this April.
Tom Wood and Team Derby Motorsport returned to the championship off the back of unprecedented success in their debut year, where they collected multiple wins and podium finishes as Tom secured an impressive 5th place in the drivers’ standings by the end of the season.
The weekend got off to a flying start for Tom and the team, as he produced a stunning lap in changing conditions to take pole position for the opening race of the weekend. However, an unfortunate fault on the green flag lap would see Tom start from the rear of the grid, putting an abrupt end to his hopes of converting the pole position into victory. For race two, Tom looked to continue where he left off from qualifying and in a fantastic display of race craft and determination, he charged to victory by over three seconds from his nearest competitor to claim victory at the fall of the chequered flag.
For the final race of the day, Tom would battle hard amongst the highly competitive field to secure a well deserved fifth place finish.
Tom’s next race of the season sees him head to the iconic Brands Hatch circuit, where he will look to continue the impressive start to the campaign.
“Great to get a home win in Round 1. A weekend full of ups and downs, but I’m happy to be back on top!”
